How to Host a Three-Bottle Tasting at Home

A good tasting is a conversation with structure, not a test. Choose three bottles that show a clear contrast: for tequila, blanco, reposado, and añejo; for whiskey, a lighter, fruitier pour beside a richer, wood-forward one. Keep the pours small, provide water, and make sure food is available.

Use identical glasses if possible and label the bottles with numbers. Taste from lighter to fuller, pausing to smell before sipping. Ask guests to note aroma, texture, finish, and whether they would want another sip. There is no correct answer. The point is to notice differences and learn what the group likes.

The linked Pottery Barn video demonstrates a tequila tasting format. Keep the event alcohol-aware and never pressure anyone to drink. For the next step, build a menu around our batch cocktail guide.
