Batch Cocktails for a Crowd Without Losing the Plot
Batching is hospitality insurance. It lets the host make the drink once, check the balance, and spend the party with people instead of shaking every order. Choose a drink that does not rely on egg white or delicate fresh herbs. A spirit-forward Old Fashioned, a Negroni, or a citrus drink can work well when the recipe is scaled thoughtfully.
Multiply every ingredient by the number of servings, then add planned dilution. A drink usually needs water because shaking or stirring with ice adds water as well as chill. Start conservatively, chill the batch, taste, and adjust. Keep carbonated ingredients separate until service so the drink stays lively.
Label the bottle, refrigerate it, and serve over fresh ice. Put a small non-alcoholic option beside it, such as our zero-proof ginger-lime fizz. The Serious Eats video below gives a useful visual explanation of batching mechanics.
