The Art of CBD: Jenn Sanchez

Art of CBD on 2019 Jun 25th

Jenn Sanchez is an uber talented floral and event designer based in California with an attraction to movement and color found in nature.

We asked Jenn to capture her interpretation of CBD through her art form, floral design.

Calm + Energize

In designing an arrangement inspired by the effects of CBD, I immediately connected with its calming and energizing components. The Lime Golden Nine Bark and Black Freckled Tiger Lilies both reflect the energizing aspects while the lavender allium feels calming. Overall, I wanted the piece to register as a dream-like state, as I take CBD in the evening to prepare for a well rested sleep.

Reset + Focus

For me, CBD is a part of a rhythm and routine of resetting my body, allowing me to clearly focus on the next thing ahead. I like to be constantly in motion, yet I have learned the importance of slowing down and taking care of myself so that I can be.

What is the role of art in your life?

I have always known that art would play a significant role in my life, but not certain where that passion would take me. I painted with oils for years, with dreams of it becoming a lifelong career. When in a lull and in need of inspiration I often found myself between two vastly different worlds of art history, Dutch Masters still life vignettes and modern conceptual art. It's now that I realize the commonality they shared was the ability to captivate me emotionally, something I value immensely in all artistic mediums.

How did you get into floral design?

In my late teen years I painted several pieces with flowers as the primary focus. I remember being so attracted to the femininity of their petals; so much effortless detail and beauty. I first visited the flower market in Los Angeles when I was eighteen and could not believe such a place existed. I was fascinated by all the species which at the time were completely unknown to me. I have been working with flowers ever since, and in the process realized flowers were the medium I have always wanted to work with.

What’s your greatest source of inspiration?

Sounds contrived, but I am inspired by life itself. The interesting colors and feelings found in the everyday little moments we find ourselves in.

How do you find your wellness, state of mind and/or mental health shapes your work?

Physical, mental, and emotional health is crucial in being at my creative best. Although I have trying days or seasons, I find awareness of where I am at and consciously accepting/course correcting to get back on track is something I’ve grown to immensely value as I’ve gotten older. For me, this looks like getting outside, going to the gym regularly, cooking more, and what I call resting productively (not just on my phone or watching tv).

What’s your favourite flower?

Such a hard question. I’ll say my favorite type of plant and that’s vines, always adore vines.

What’s your current obsession?

My husband tells me I often use the word “obsessed” so I’m sure the list is long. I would say the one I am currently willing to admit is gardening and landscaping. We purchased a home in the last year and it’s all we work on/talk about!

What does unwinding look like for you?

I love to cook and entertain, spend time with my cats, garden, paint.

Also, can you expand on your earlier comment about how you found lavender and mint energizing/inspiring?

In designing an arrangement inspired by the effects of CBD, I immediately connected with the calming and energizing components as descriptors. The lime golden ninebark and black freckled tiger lilies both reflected the energizing aspects while the lavender allium feels calming. Overall I wanted the piece to register as a dream-like state as I take CBD in the evening and it prepares me for a well rested nights sleep.

What's your favorite SR flavor?

Cucumber and Mint!
